Frequently Asked Questions
What does Isis Distributors offer ?
We sell books and other products to bookstore chains and independent
stores, mass merchandisers, libraries, wholesalers, jobbers, and
others, in the U.S., Canada, and other countries. To support the selling effort,
we store your products, package & ship, invoice & collect, and handle returns or credits. We accept orders via mail, telephone, fax, electronically, and internet, and ship most orders within 1-4 days. In some cases, we also offering advertising/marketing support.
What is your sales area ?
We currently sell to the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia...wherever you choose !
What do you do once you receive a new book for distribution ?
We enter you into our system, then begin to contact libraries with your title information and covers once you provide them with the necessary data sheets. We then process your orders.
What are the contract terms ?
Generally, we allow modification or termination on 90-120 days’
written notice from either party. Given particular selling seaons, we try to discourage doing so during these times given the harm mid-season terminations can have on sales.
Why do I need a distributor?
It is the best way to get your titles sold to buyers and the mass market. Few publishers can do the extensive work unless sales in their organisation are in the millions annually. There are few affordable methods beyond forming alliance with an experienced distributor.
If I'm with a larger company, like Baker & Taylor, isn't that enough ?
Truthfully, sometimes. However, some are merely wholesalers that do nothing more than fulfill orders. A distributor will generate sales for you and much more.
Must we sign an exclusive contract with Isis Distributors ?
It is advisable, particularly when interacting with bookstores. Many distributors will stop pushing a publisher's line if they find themselves competing against that publisher's sales people to market the same accounts. Otherwise, it isn't necessary.
